A mini replica of the famous San Damiano Cross, encased in olive wood from Assisi. 
 
The original San Damiano cross was painted in the 1100s and hung in an abandoned chapel near Assisi.  St. Francis of Assisi was deep in prayer before this cross, when he heard the voice of God, commanding him to "rebuild my church".
